I love when a character talks to the reader. It puts you at ease with him or her, and brings out a friendship that needs to exist, in order for you to get along.
I also like when the reader can put themselves in the character’s shoes, as if they are the character for that short period of time. I think it gets the reader interested faster if they believe that the character is an extension of themselves. Those kinds of characters I search for when I start reading a book, and they are the things keep me interested until the end.
What I want to know is… what character do you consider the best character in fiction literature?
